Garnet Necklace

In Scandinavian folklore and mythology, the Shield Maiden was a woman who had chosen to fight as a warrior alongside men. While historical existence of shield maidens is still heavily debated, they do feature prominently in the “Vikings” series which was one of my favorite shows and I believe they did exist and showed how strong and equal they are to men.  

This beautiful deep reddish orange (depending on light) Garnet marquis is bezel set in fine silver serrated wire on a heavily textured sterling silver backplate. The pendant is 1" diameter and hangs 1-3/4" from the bail (with rose) that the chain threads through.  Pendant is stamped on backside with my makers mark and Sterling.  All silver was given a dark patina to highlight the textures and compliment the deep color of the stone. On an 18" sterling silver chain that closes with my signature hook & eye clasp. Handmade with love by me in Oregon.
